Merton Muaremi: “Makeup artists today become celebrities themselves”

Leading makeup artists from all over the world have signed up on Merton Muaremi’s Instagram (@merton_muaremi_makeup www.mertonmuaremi.com). His work is watched and it is discussed at master classes. He is invited to take part in major beauty projects. We asked Merton to share his impressions of today’s fashion.

How long have you been working with fashion?

Already 18 years as I started when I was only 19.

What brands do you work with?

I have worked during Melbourne and Sydney Fashion Week for Gucci, Versace, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier and many local brands such as Alex Perry and Dion Lee.

Is becoming a top makeup artist luck or work?

Hard work and dedication. To achieve perfection in makeup, we have to go a long way – this is both practice, observation and theoretical knowledge.

What’s in vogue now?

Fresh natural makeup. It has always been trending, but lately, soft glamour has taken over social media and has become more popular than ever.

What impact does the make-up artist have in the profession?

Over the past ten years, makeup artists have made a huge impact on the fashion industry – more and more incredible works are emerging. The most interesting thing is that today makeup artists themselves become celebrities.

What else interesting is going on in the fashion world today?

The makeup trends and variety are impressive. This direction has become more widespread and accessible (in particular due to social networks). Many people love makeup and the feeling that you can look different with it.

In this issue, we recall touching, positive stories about fashion and modelling. Do you have any memories?

Most of all, I remember the moment when I flew to Jakarta (Indonesia) to present my make-up master class. More than 500 students were waiting for me. It was incredible!
