The rapid development of artificial intelligence in the modelling industry will inevitably lead to increased competition. Modelling won’t disappear, but it will transform, and getting into it will become more difficult than it was just five years ago. New models should focus on the following key aspects:
• Body measurements. If an agent asks you to meet certain measurements, this is not a whim, but a requirement of the recruiting agencies. Don’t expect to lose weight right before a trip or on a plane—this is self-delusional. Agencies already strictly monitor weight and impose penalties or send models home.
• English proficiency. It is a common misconception that a model’s attractive appearance can compensate for a lack of language skills. While there is some truth to this, even the most sought-after appearance won’t save a model if she can’t understand photographers and the crew. In this case, a replacement will quickly be found. It is much easier and more effective to start learning English well in advance.
• Inner qualities. A model’s personal qualities, such as behaviour, character, and upbringing, will also play a significant role. No matter how well you fit the model’s profile, a bad temper and arrogance will prevent you from lasting long in this business.
• A strong modelling book and high-quality photos from reputable magazines are your key to coveted castings. New models begin with local tests. To make a modelling book work for you, you need to invest in it. Participation in free tests is encouraged (if they are valuable for your reputation), but you can also arrange 2-3 paid shoots with reputable photographers.
• Social media management. Agencies constantly request models’ accounts. They pay attention to the number of followers, the content of their posts, and your sanity. Modelling blogs and account promotion are encouraged.
Therefore, it is more important than ever for new models to meet the required parameters, take care of their skin, constantly improve their posing and fashion show skills, and have at least a basic command of English.
