This issue is dedicated to one of the most pressing topics of our time—artificial intelligence. Together with our subjects, we tried to figure out: is AI a helper or a destroyer of the modelling industry? Some predict that models will only survive for a few months, while others believe that interest in AI will soon fade, or that fruitful collaborations await us.
My opinion: modelling in its current form will soon disappear. AI is already significantly simplifying the creation of catalogues, look books, and prints, reducing clients’ costs. Only major projects will remain: Fashion Weeks, Victoria’s Secret shows, TV commercials, and campaigns for famous brands. Entering the profession will become much more difficult: requirements will become stricter, and perfect English, flawless posing, and catwalk performances will be highly valued.
A strong portfolio is already a requirement today, and in a year, thanks to AI, many portfolios will be simply perfect, as it can generate photos in any outfit and location. Magazine-style photos will be especially valuable. Close attention will be paid to social media management, the number of followers, and blogs. Intelligence, communication skills, good manners, and a well-rounded model will become essential.
On the one hand, I understand that the modelling business will become more complex, but on the other, it will reach a qualitatively new, more conscious level. Trips “like a vacation” or with no English skills, as well as a portfolio consisting of a few shots from a local brand, will be a thing of the past. Next year will tell who turns out to be right.
P.S. How do you like my AI photo?
Enjoy!
