In this issue we will talk about the ideal in modelling. Nowadays fashion is going through strange times. Fashion weeks are switching to the digital format or are broadcast online without an audience. America and Europe are shouting about tolerance, changing model standards. The concept of a body positive is becoming increasingly blurred. Previously we clearly understood by this the acceptance of body defects (be it birth defects or disability), now we are talking about “plus-size” models under this concept. In my opinion, such models can exist in the fashion industry, but at the same time they must have a good skin condition and be fit. It has become fashionable to shoot for lookbooks of African-Americans, transgender and non-traditional models. Generally modelling seems confused as on one hand the world’s modelling agencies are only looking at new trends and yet continuing to send previous requests to mother agencies for thin models.
In the 80s supermodels were ideal. In the 90s designers got tired of customers noticing only models, not collections and began to slowly bring models with less memorable features, androgynous to the podium. Then came the 2000s, when the market began to be oversaturated with faceless models, and they started talking about charisma and individuality. With the advent of Instagram, blogger models with hyped names and a large number of subscribers have gained popularity. Customers now often choose models by the number of likes in networks, not by the book and photo. It is unclear what the concept of ideality in modelling implies today. We have reflected on this with agencies and models and shared it with you.
At the same time, we have the thoughts of the ideal makeup artist in an interview with the founder of the Remake Community School Svetlana Andreychenko. In the Cover Page section, the Italian author of a photo book Mattia Baldi, talks about his path and what in his opinion is happening with the modelling business today. The Fitting category is also interesting — today we have a model, male stylist and buyer Elena Ivaykina as a guest, with whom we reflect on trends, men’s fashion and the popularity of the freaky model Leon Dame.
