In 2012 the Trendsquire team began researching consumer and aesthetic preferences. The Trend-buro (@trend_buro_ru) issues annual macro forecasts for two years ahead on changes in consumer preferences in fashion. We met its founder Ksenia Leri and found out what awaits us in the fashion industry in the next couple of years.
Why did you choose Fashion?
I’ve always wondered why people dress this way or that. I was interested to understand what they see in the mirror and why some things seem fashionable or not. I felt that the images that give me joy and pleasure from being in my body are not liked by everyone. But I couldn’t understand why. At the same time, I liked to play with the costumes myself, change clothes and feel like a different person. Then I began to wonder what makes the image fashionable. So gradually, through design, I came to Fashion.
What has surprised you recently in the fashion world?
I never cease to admire the never-ending desire to go beyond the boundaries that is present in Fashion. Over the past couple of years, the presentation has changed a lot: images, angles, locations, the manner of shooting. It’s becoming more and more like modern art. And this miracle is so good! I like the solutions that designers find for digital shows: shooting through fish-eye, collages and the use of various dolls, mannequins and puppets. There is a sense of self-irony and a very fresh flow of creativity.
Is there any Fashion in Russia?
Of course! There is also its own request for status, expensive, drowning in pleasure. There are the Russian designers with their very honest and a modern approach to fashion. In our online course “Trendwatching with your own hands”, we teach you to analyze sources and formulate trends. And many of the sources and examples are Russian. We, more than in Europe, for example, have a request for self-identification. Who are we? What are we talking about? This makes fashion creative, sacred, that is, a very personal experience. Russian designers speak from the position of “give the best that I have”, sometimes it goes against the expectations of the audience. That’s what we’re after. But this is definitely a very strong and pure creative emanation.
What are the main trends for the upcoming seasons?
In the coming seasons we expect an increase in interest in urban trekking, inspired by clothing and accessories for hiking, in a restrained green and sand-brown color scheme. This is due to the desire for simple and practical things. As well as flirting with virtual images. Synthetic textures and colors, inclusions of metallic elements and finishes, large textural finishes, embroidery, appliques, lettering, faces, eyes, lips as decor. The human body is the center of attention. Tactile sensations and the search for new aesthetics on the verge of virtual reality. There is also a growing interest in things with a complex cut, as if assembled from different products, with different textures, materials, and even silhouettes. This is if very briefly. In fact, we are experiencing a very interesting moment in the development of fashion.
