In my practice, not a single model expressed disappointment with the experience of working in Mexico. Furthermore, most of them want to come back here again. What is the secret allure of this country?
The work here is similar to the general world practice. Fashion week is quite large-scale, there are many orders for catalogues for local clothing brands, as well as advertising campaigns. Mexico is an economically developed country with beautiful cities. This attracts large companies and famous brands. However, it is worth noting the trend towards lower fees. Previously for one day of work on a catalogue you could get 800 usd, now this amount can be half as much. Payment for participation in shows at fashion week is even lower and does not cover the time spent on fittings and rehearsals. For participation in a commercial shoot, you can get from 1500 to 2000 usd. For a catalogue for a large campaign – 5000 usd, and the shooting can be several days in the Bahamas, for example. The fees of companies like Coca-Cola are much higher – about $ 10,000. For comparison, in the States this fee can be about $ 50,000.
Apartments in Mexico are not particularly fancy. Cleanliness is maintained, the rooms are small, designed for 2-3 people to live together. In one apartment there can be several rooms for both guys and girls. As a rule, a friendly atmosphere reigns, evenings are often devoted to joint leisure: watching movies, playing games and just chatting. Taxi prices are affordable, pocket money is enough for basic needs.
Food is a matter of taste and preference. Some are not thrilled with hot chilli, salsa and the use of onions in large quantities, while others adore tacos, nachos, burritos and quesadillas. But one thing is for sure: the variety of dishes is so great that everyone can find something to their taste. Open-air markets offer delicious fruits, snacks and light meals. Numerous cafes offer handmade pastries and healthy food. The climate in Mexico City is dry and hot, so the need for vegetables and fruit is constant, and they are in abundance here.
Types. Local models are usually short and have dark skin. However, advertising campaigns of large companies often look for types that are diametrically opposite: fair-haired blondes with blue eyes. European appearance, with light hair, light eyes and tall stature, is popular. In addition to Europeans, many models come from Latin America (Venezuela, Colombia, etc.).
The specifics of the market – this is where the most attractive side is revealed. Mexico is an ideal place for creating bright and stylish photographs, thanks to its unique nature. The locations are so picturesque that the pictures look fabulous. Many production companies from the States come here to shoot commercials, as the budget is smaller and the locations are very beautiful. Models say that the trip often lasts 3 days, and they work only one, the rest of the time they swim and relax. How can you not like it?
