Modelling in Thailand is probably remembered for its interesting TVCs, where an actor’s data is welcome, where there are beautiful catalogues and urban traffic. Here you can star in famous magazines and replenish the book. At castings you will already have makeup on, and amongst the makeup artists there are plenty of lady boys – former men who have become women (although the advice is to refrain from calling them this). At the weekend, there is an opportunity to ask the agency to visit the islands. However, you cannot sunbathe there as it is strictly forbidden. And the heat, the heat, the heat!
Yulia Temporiti: The utmost important feature of modelling in Thailand is that local designers sew clothes only for the local market. There are many local brands and talented designers who are unknown outside the country. Therefore, the models that are shot for these collections would be fashion for Thais.
Popular types now for girls are mainly brunettes, but with fair skin. Commercial girls are mostly dark hair, light and clean skin, with a fresh face. Blondes and redheads are rarely required and only for specific projects in magazines. The next popular type is Asian: Chinese, Korean, Japanese women with white skin. Thai and Filipina are no longer suitable. We do not employ girls over the age of 24 anymore. However, everything is individual.
The situation for the men is different. Previously, the Italian type was in fashion. Now young thin fashion boys work well. Preference is also given to brunettes and Asians.
Pocket expenses – 2500-3000 baht per week for food and travel. (At this time 1 baht = 2.6 rubles). Here, models travel to auditions and work independently because it is unprofitable to use drivers as the traffic jams are heavy.
Only those who have been selected online are invited to auditions. There are no long queues as before, amid all the models of the city. In the audition they change your clothes, put on your makeup and take a couple of test shots. Alternatively, the clothes can be sent to the agency’s office where the models change clothes with us. We then take a few shots and send them to customers. This is very convenient as you do not need to go anywhere, and time is saved.
For example, in our agency at the weekend we let models visit the mountains, nature reserves, or the sea. However, sunbathing is strictly banned. This is one of the nice bonuses of working in Thailand as you can combine work and active leisure. Tickets within the country are reasonably priced and there are many lovely places to visit: beaches, tea plantations, and tiger reserves.
