Stealing models: how to fight, what to do?

There are a lot of stories about how agencies lure models to them. It was in the days of supermodels, it continues in our time, and who knows if it will end in the future. Of course, you always need to know the opinions of both sides and take into account the nuances, but mother agencies, who have raised and invested time and money in the promotion of their wards are always offended when their model leaves, often secretly or in a rough form. It is difficult to judge models if the agency does not deal with them, but it is even more difficult to understand agencies that purposefully poach other people’s models, promise them mountains of gold, setting them up against the mother. We will find out what the directors of mother agencies themselves think about this.

Now there are public posts for mother agencies and I think we should talk about such problems and draw up black lists. Personally I block such characters in all social networks, because, as a rule, they are former models or scouts. Also in the contract, we have a clause under which models are required to report all incoming offers from outside, whether they are scouts, photographers, or clients… It’s not even about what can be stolen, but to prevent dangerous connections. Under the name of scouts, unfriendly people can hide, so it is important to keep track of everything. Sometimes other agencies send messages to models and persuade them to go to them. So I am aware of all the options for offers to models from third parties. But my models are persistent, they answer: please communicate with my agent!

The most important thing is to make sure that as many mother agencies as possible are aware of the theft situation. But we must be correct and objective. However I am sure that a well-mannered, loyal, in-demand model is almost difficult to entice. Girls leave when they are not satisfied with what is happening, so you need to resolve misunderstandings between the model and the agency as soon as possible.

There is definitely no point in communicating with the agency-thief, they will not apologize and will not admit their guilt. You can try to recover the money spent if there is evidence that you found this model and participated in its development. But you don’t always want to waste your nerves on it. You need to try to talk to the model, to understand what she was promised, at least in order to draw conclusions for yourself. Those who are easily lured away will leave, but it is not a fact that they will change the motherboard only once.

A guy at our agency once complained that I didn’t believe in him, and everyone told him that he could work in New York and I didn’t send him there. He secretly changed agency and disappeared from sight. Later I learned that he went to the mother agency, which in all forums was indignant when discussed the theft of models and always wrote: “Yes, such people should be punished! I would have shown them!” The guy, by the way, went to a couple of the same agencies where I sent him before. He wasn’t seen in New York. I did not bring the situation to the lawyers, as communication with the model was no longer pleasant for me and I understood that it was better to let the “American” go free. In general, the theft of models cannot be hushed up. Now there are many forums of mother agencies, you need to warn, share, sign with the models all the costs and recover them in case of violation of the contract. At the moment, the politic of our center is that we do not take models from other agencies, even if they left their amicably. We find our own people, educate them and try to solve all misunderstandings on the shore. We let go of too capricious and unprofessional models ourselves.
