Anna (@anna_khanzhina) was born in Siberia and worked as a model in China for a long time. She now lives and works in California, USA. Anna Albright has collaborated with Max Mara, Miss Sixty, Aldo, Huawei and other brands.
How did you get into modelling?
At first it was a hobby, but then my friends left for contracts in Asia and I too wanted to try the international market for myself. I lived and worked in China for approximately six years and then I married and moved to the States.
What is the difference between American modelling and Asian modelling?
American clients are always very polite and ask, “Sorry, could you please do this and that?” In China, you sometimes feel like a robot as there it is important to change poses very quickly and over a long period of time and there are many frames shot. In America everything is more natural and individual.
What are your sources of inspiration?
I decided to study again and headed towards IT. I am inspired by stories where people are not afraid of change and alter their profession at any age. Walks near the ocean and visits to art galleries always inspire me.
What do you think is happening with the fashion world now?
The concept of a model is being erased in the classical sense. I am seeing more and more inclusiveness. On the set I work with models of all race and age. Body positive has also been successful and plus-size models work very well. The model world has ceased to be the same type and standard and I really like it!
The theme of the issue is positive, touching, interesting stories about modelling and fashion. Do you have any memories?
I fondly remember how we took care of each other with friends when we were on modelling contracts. Contrary to stereotypes about the insidious modelling world, everything was quite the opposite. There were weeks when I worked every day and was very tired. However, my friend made me lunch boxes so that I could take a snack with me. It was great support!
