New face
So, a scout has noticed you, and there was a face-to-face or telephone conversation. You were asked standard questions about your date of birth, height, measurements, shoe size, scars or tattoos, English proficiency, and passport. They advised you to work on your portfolio, not to change your appearance, avoid tanning, and, most likely, start learning English.
At this stage, it is important not to delude yourself and your parents, thinking that tomorrow you will be invited to Paris to open a Dolce & Gabbana show. Everything is possible, but not so quickly. You will really need to expand your portfolio, as well as learn English. You may need to lose weight (less often, gain weight), improve the condition of your skin, hair, and teeth. If you are serious about working with international agencies, you will honestly begin to study English, preferably with a native speaker, paying attention to conversational speech. Gain experience, at first, perhaps for free. Keep in touch with the scouts, write to them at least once a week, send new photos and find out what else can be improved.
First contract
The first contract has been found. They called you, told you about the country and the agency, discussed the contract, clarified the visa details and, if necessary, contacted the parents. At this stage, rejoice quietly and promptly send everything that the mother agency requests. I advise you to tell everyone about leaving for a foreign agency only after arriving at the destination. Before that moment, everything can change. The probability is small, but there is still a risk that they will not send a work invitation, will not give a visa, cancel the contract at the stage of buying tickets, cancel flights or transfer the contract to another season. Upon arrival, the agency may be disappointed in your English or parameters and send you home. Therefore, promptly respond to requests, stay in shape, learn posing, fashion show, English and get ready for work.
First week abroad
Hooray, you are working with a foreign agency for the first time! You’ve gone through all the stages of getting a visa, maybe you’ve had a long stopover, you’re tired, but the agency is happy with you, and you like the agency. The main thing now is not to relax. Don’t run off to eat croissants, explore nightclubs, and relax on the beaches. During your first trips, you need to give it your all at castings, learn to pose, improve your English, build up your portfolio, and soak up the atmosphere. Ideally, that’s it. But what happens if the agency or you are unhappy with each other. What do you do? Try even harder. Agencies start picking on models because of the lack of work. As soon as you have offers and contracts, nothing will bother them.
And also, manage your social networks correctly, starting from the moment you are noticed by a scout. If your profile says you are a model, try to make sure your content matches this status. Especially if the agency asks you to lose weight, you shouldn’t publish stories from McDonalds. It is better to show how you are losing extra inches in the gym or on a run, eating a lettuce leaf. Use your first trips to good use, as well as all subsequent ones.
